Benefiting from AI is all about the tools

We’re all excited every two weeks or so when a new model drops, hopefully improving our workflows and making life easier.

But there are huge gains that can be made from simply making better use of existing tools.

Reduce friction by getting data into AI FAST

One of the bottlenecks of AI use is getting data in. Even if you can type at 120+ words per minute, its still slow compared to how fast the current crop of AI models work.

Use Snip tools and paste images instead:

• Most AI models are multimodal, which means they can deal with images as well as text.
• No matter what Operating System you have on your computer, you will have some variation of Snipping Tool, which allows you to screenshot selections of your screen in seconds.
• Simply paste the image into Expanse instead of typing, and proceed with your normal workflow!

Be aware, AI can still make mistakes with images, but in my experience is good enough that my default way of entering error messages while coding is to paste in images.

Operating system specifics

For Windows

1. ⊞ + Shift + S to drag the rectangle over the screen area you want to capture
2. Ctrl + V to paste into your chat box

For Mac

1. Command (⌘) + Shift + 4 to drag the rectangle over the screen area you want to capture
2. Double click the preview image in the bottom corner
3. Ctrl + C to copy to clipboard
4. Ctrl + V to paste into your chat box
